The sun is up and the air is warm as we leave Camp Butler. Today's ride is supposed to be about 35 miles long so we are in no hurry. Traveling along the back roads all day long takes us past many acres of farmland. There are no stores where we can buy groceries. Becky gets her opportunity to save a turtle, but she uses a stick instead of her foot. Louie finds another license plate to add to his collection.

After 30 miles we take a detour to Chippokes Plantation State Park. Louie is not that keen on the detour, but Becky prevails. It feels as if it is miles into the park before we actually find someplace to stop, the camp store and swimming pool. The ranger who is busy cleaning and checking up on the structure tells us that the store is closed and will not open until the end of the month. She allows us to use the rest rooms after we eat lunch.

Becky wants to see the plantation area, but it is a long way up and down some very steep hills. Louie says, "This is going to be good training for the hills we will soon encounter." The museum is very well done. They have lots of equipment and artifacts in very good repair. Becky busies herself in the Museum store while Louie takes the tour with the local grade school children.

Upon striking up a conversation with the store clerk, Becky learns that the campground where we were to spend the night has closed. But, all is not lost; this state park has camping, so we have found a home for the night. After depositing all our possessions in the park, we still have enough time to go to Historic Jamestown for the afternoon. It is a short bike and ferry ride from the state park.

Jamestown is wonderful. We enjoy it very much. It has many exhibits both outside and inside. Louie did not see the sign saying not to take pictures in the inside gallery. Upon leaving, he sees the sign. Oops! Nothing we can do now but enjoy the pictures.

Arriving back at camp, we register at the camp host site. Louie tells him that were having emergency rations of mac and cheese for dinner tonight because we couldn't find a store. Later the camp host brings us hot dogs and cake for dinner. Becky bestows the much coveted "Travel Angel Award" upon him. News that we are in camp gets out. Lots of folks stop by to chat; even the local sheriff comes by to tell us that he used to live in Maine. A nice campfire ends the day.
