Following a recommendation we got from a concession stand operator on Assateague Island, we set out to find the Fractured Prune Donut Shoppe in Ocean City, Maryland. It isn't long before Louie spots the sign "Hot Donuts Your Way". Once inside we see no donuts on display. At first we are confused until we discover that all the donuts are made to order and topped just about any way you can dream of. Us being the Blueberry Tandem Team we ask for a Blueberry Donut. Within minutes our dream donut magically appears, piping hot. Louie is quite the donut connoisseur and he rates these cake donuts as the best he has ever had. Stop by and see for yourself, they are located at 9636 Steven Decatur Hwy. Ocean City, MA. Other locations at fracturedprune.com .Will someone please open a Fractured Prune Donut Shoppe in Portland Oregon? Franchise available.

Just a bit further down the road is the Ocean City Boardwalk. Bike riding is permitted there until 10 am so we have over an hour to enjoy the ocean and shop for trinkets. All of the businesses on the Boardwalk compete for the tourist dollar. Because we are ahead of the busy season we get great deals on everything we buy. Ocean City has something for everyone young or old. Louie challenges a foursome driving a surrey to a race. They take one look at our muscular legs bulging out of tight spandex shorts and decide we are too fast for them. As usual we recruit a fellow tourist to snap our picture before we finish the two-mile leisurely stroll on the Boardwalk.

When we leave the Boardwalk we encounter "Sharrows". "Sharrows" are bike symbols painted o the road that direct bicycles where to ride in a lane that is shared with other traffic. In this case the other traffic is public transportation busses. Many busses pass us without incident. This has been one of the best bike facilities we have encountered on this tour so far. The "Sharrows" end at the state line but the bike route and signage continues, even across a temporary bridge placed next to another that is being constructed.

Just a few miles into Delaware we make the obligatory stop at the local visitors center. Inside Becky asks about hotel rates and finds out that some hotels in the area are almost the same price as the state park we are planning to stay at. Another rest day is planned. Soft beds with no mosquitoes await us. Life is good, and getting better all the time.
