Emily and Grandma’s Great Adventure March 22nd, 2008

Emmy and Grandma are bunking together this week while Grandma visits for a while. They wake up early in the morning all exited because they are going to go for a big bike ride. They talk about where they want to go and decide that it must include ice cream so a stop at Dairy Queen is required.
They head out at 11:00 AM and pass the very spot where Daniel and Grandma had done a double endo a couple of days before. They inspect the spots on the pavement for lost limbs and skin. Finding none they proceed. They are looking for the Nampa portion of the Greenbelt bike path. After turning Emily took the lead because she knows exactly where the bike path is.
At the bike path they turn North and follow a whole group of runners. Emily chats with them as Emily and Grandma pass them carefully. Emily points out all the signs in front of the trees that say what kind of tree and when they were planted.
Emily and Grandma got to the end of the path. Across the street is a rail road track that runs nowhere. Grandma wants to ride next to the railroad track but Emily thinks better of it. Grandma wins and off they go down the railroad track. Actually it wasn’t too bad because it was nice and quiet. They got to see some streams and some ducks and some waterfalls. But, the problem is that there are lots of goathead stickers on the ground. They get stuck in all the tires. Emily and Grandma finally get to the cross road and have to spend a goodly amount of time picking the goatheads out of their tires. Emily is lucky because she has slime in her tires, but Grandma does not. Thankfully they get all the stickers out and are ready to head for ice cream.
Soon they arrive at Dairy Queen. They leaned their bikes together and hooked helmet straps in the wheels to keep anyone from running off with them and then they took a seat by the door so they could watch. Emily went to the counter to order ice cream but the best part was the good looking young man at the counter who instantly fell in love with Emily. His eyes were doing wirleygigs and he was smiling from ear to ear. After the food was done he brought it over to our table and smiled at Emily again. Grandma kicked Emily under the table and said that she thought the guy was in love.
Tearing Emily away from her heartthrob was not easy, but they had to continue. They decided to stop at a Park for a break. Emily took one trip down the slide and then they continued on. After much discussion they decide to make the ride longer and go out to Lake Lowell for some relaxation by the water. They find a dirt road that takes them into a wildlife refuge. There they go down by the water for a break. The sun sparkles off the water and the soft waves hit the shore. Emily and Grandma throw rocks in the water and one of them skips and another splashes Emily in the face. Emily goes down to the water’s edge and wades in the cool clear water. After a wile it is time to head home.
The ride home is long and hard because there are many uphills. Grandma and Emily come across a new bike path that they did not know was there. They ride it along a creak that has waterfalls and ducks. It is very pretty in one spot so they stop to share their crackers with the ducks and admire the waterfall that the ducks were playing in. Continuing on they end up right where they want to be. After many ups and downs and cookies they finally arrive back at Emily’s house. They had such a great time that they decide to go out again tomorrow and spend the day at the lake riding around it on the dirt road. They went a total of 22.7 miles. More adventures to come.
